STAT News Spotlight on Gender Gap in Science

October 12, 2024 by Lisa M.P. Munoz

A story in STAT News related to the Nobel Prizes in science going to men in 2024 noted:

“Unfortunately there is still a surprising amount of work to do just to convince men in senior scientific positions that these barriers exist at all.”

It’s not just to convince men. The barriers facing women in science are still vast, and the recent focus on the gender gap in the Nobel Prize is one part of the story. There are many forces and factors that shape credit in science and they still have a disproportionately negative effect on women.

Many of the studies in this article are featured in depth, along with a lot more data to help those who need convincing, in my book “Women in Science Now” — available in hardback, Kindle and Audible and very soon in paperback.
